In my nearly three decades in the media and advertising landscape, I've had the privilege of working with numerous talented individuals, collaborating on innovative campaigns and steering several organisations. However, amidst the evolution, vigour and excitement of the work and life, there's one person who has remained my constant guiding partner – my wife, Shavon.
An accomplished advertising and media professional-turned-columnist and independent consultant, Shavon and I have been partners since Grade 12, and our journey together has been nothing short of extraordinary. What sets our relationship apart is our unwavering commitment to honesty, transparency and openness. We trust each other implicitly, respecting each other's decisions and perspectives. In times of challenge and adversity, it's Shavon's unwavering support and sage advice that keeps me grounded and focused. She is my pillar of strength, my confidante, and my continued inspiration.
If I were to write a novel about our journey together, it would be an epic! But let me instead share three qualities of Shavon that have truly inspired me.
First, Shavon has a remarkable sense of empathy. She has an innate ability to understand and connect with people, make them feel heard and valued. Whether it's in our personal or professional interactions, Shavon's empathy shines through, fostering connections of compassion and understanding.
Another aspect of Shavon that deeply impresses me is her exceptional talent as a team builder. She is a people person and has a knack for bringing people together, harnessing their unique strengths, and fostering collaboration and camaraderie. Under her leadership, I have seen several teams flourish, achieving remarkable results and exceeding expectations.
Perhaps what I admire most about Shavon is her unflinching honesty and candour. She is not one to mince her words or sugar-coat the truth. Instead, she speaks with clarity and conviction, always offering honest feedback and insights. Her straightforward approach has been a catalyst for my personal and professional growth.
Our partnership is not one of mere equality, but of mutual respect, support, and dedication. Her qualities inspire me every day to be a better person and a better leader. As we continue this incredible journey and adventure together, I am filled with optimism and excitement for the future, knowing that with Shavon by my side, anything is possible.
