Bloomberg UTV, Sobo Films join hands for ‘The Outsider’
The debate series will go on air in mid August and will be hosted by Tim Sebastian, the founder and host of ‘Doha Debates’
Bloomberg UTV and Sobo Films have announced the launch of ‘The Outsider’. The debate series will be hosted by Tim Sebastian, the founder and host of ‘Doha Debates’.
Commenting on the new show, Sriram Kilambi, President, Bloomberg UTV, said, “We are very excited about having Tim Sebastian hosting ‘The Outsider’, a unique and hard-hitting debate series about India, conducted in India. This show is the first ever television show about India to be showcased on a global platform and we are proud to be the channel to carry it.”
The new show will be on air from mid August 2012 and will be broadcast by Bloomberg UTV in India and by Bloomberg TV across Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and Middle East.
Kilambi further said, “The objective of telecasting the show on Bloomberg is to reach out to a wider audience at the national and global level.”
He further said, “The whole idea is that if we want to be a thorough business channel, we need to be able to address the other things that impact business. It is not just equity market and debt market impacting business any more. Various other issues that we will be discussing are also important.”
Vikas Gulati, Director, Sobo Films added here that it was really about putting the Indian youth and the minds of future of India on a global stage.
The new show will be promoted on the Bloomberg UTV channel, besides various media platforms such as print, OOH and a strong social media campaign to gather opinions and votes from across the world, which will be incorporated into the show.
Each debate will have speakers arguing ‘for’ and ‘against’ the motion. Speakers will include politicians, business people and activists. The debate will be conducted in the presence of a live audience of around 200 people.
MEP Infrastructure is the main sponsor of the show, while Sobo Films is the content provider.
Tim Sebastian, who will host the show, remarked, “We are aiming to open and change people’s minds, and I'll assist people in getting the answers from politicians.”
