Severe financial pressure, a paralyzed mother and ill father, forced a lady in Baroda to sell herself on social media. The family for long survived on the ill father’s meagre pension which suddenly stopped. Several futile attempts by the lady to earn a living led to hopelessness and depression that had finally driven her to take such an extreme step. With no support and the responsibility to take care of her ill parents, she left her job to manage her house but growing financial pressures, medical bills, domestic expenditures and her joblessness drove her to the brink of insanity.
With these circumstances and with every day’s challenge of survival, she posted to sell herself on the social media, which soon became a viral topic within the city. Divya Bhaskar was the first to speak to the lady and bring her condition to light. In her exclusive story with the Divya Bhaskar team, she confided her plight and her plea for assistance to save her parents and ensure a livelihood for the family.
Divya Bhaskar followed up and covered all developments of the lady’s life publishing her sincere and urgent call for help. Following Divya Bhaskar’s reporting, on November 28 a group of senior citizens came forward to help. A Divya Bhaskar reader from USA also has also shown interest in helping her. On November 29, the honorable Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also extended assistance to the lady. By November 30, help from various sources poured in – the Collector, Mayor and other ministers visited the lady and assured her of every possible help that could be extended by the Government of Jharkhand.
The lady is keen to start a Gruh Udyog that will enable her to earn a respectful livelihood, take care of her paralyzed mother and ill father as well as handle domestic responsibilities. She has been assured assistance by the Mayor and Collector. Divya Bhaskar continues to ensure that this initiative is not misappropriated and the lady is able to receive the needed assistance to bring her out of this situation.
Saras Sethi Chief Operating Officer, Divya Bhaskar, said, “We are happy to have made a difference to the lady’s family and help her rebuild her life. Information is powerful and we as a news media are committed to use information to play a responsible role in every individual’s life, city and the nation’s well-being. Divya Bhaskar’s persistent coverage to focus public attention on this key issue, has helped in saving lives, mobilized a lot of assistance and aroused hope for a new beginning. We also express deep gratitude to all those who have taken a step in responding to our call to be of assistance to the lady and her family.”
