The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), which was slated to hear the petition filled by the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) and some other music and regional broadcasters against Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) 10+2 ad restriction diktat on October 31, 2013, has postponed the hearing date. The Tribunal will now hear the petition on November 11, 2013.

Reportedly, Viacom18, ZEE and STAR wanted to file as respondents in favour of TRAI’s decision on the 10+2 ad cap, however, the Tribunal postponed all the hearings to November 11, 2013.

As is known, major broadcasters such as Sun TV, 9XM, B4U, E24 and various regional broadcasters had recently moved a petition against the TRAI order of 10+2 ad cap, which makes it mandatory for broadcasters to air 12 minutes of advertisements in a clock hour, including self promotion, under the Quality of Service (QoS) norm, which is part of the Cable Television and Network Rule (CTNR), 1994.

Earlier, News Broadcasters Association (NBA), representing news channels, had also got a stay order on the ad cap implementation. TDAST had stated, “Till further orders, TRAI shall not take any coercive measures against the appellants or its members to make them abide by the impugned Regulations.”
