The sudden demise of KVL Narayan Rao, Group CEO, and Executive Vice Chairman of NDTV, who passed away at the age of 63 after battling cancer for two years, has left his industry colleagues in a state of shock.

Remembering Rao as a noble person who was known for his positive and affable personality, Anurradha Prasad, Chairperson & Managing Director, B.A.G Network - ‎B.A.G Films & Media Ltd, said, “I vividly remember meeting him when I became the member of News Broadcasters association (NBA). He came across as an extremely amicable person who was easy to connect. He was a very forward looking person and someone with true leadership qualities.”

Prasad also lauded his contribution as the President of NBA and recalled how he worked dedicatedly to address the issues related to Indian broadcasters. Terming his sudden demise as a big loss, Prasad added, “His untimely demise is a huge loss for the entire industry. His contribution to NBA and to the broadcast industry will always be remembered.”

Rao had started his career as a journalist with the Indian Express, before joining the Indian Revenue Service where he held several important appointments during his tenure from 1979-1994. He had held important positions as President of the News Broadcasters Association, member of the Indian Broadcasting Federation and Vice President of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association.

Rao joined NDTV as General Manager in January 1995, looking after Human Resources, Administration and Operations of the organisation, and then he was invited to join the Board of NDTV in 1998 and held the position of Executive Director since then. He was appointed Group CEO in 2007 and Executive Vice Chairperson in August 2011. In October 2016 Narayan Rao was reappointed for a second tenure as Group CEO of NDTV in addition to his responsibilities as Executive Vice Chairperson.
