Sharmista Rijhwani has called it quits as CEO of Sahara One Media & Entertainment. Rijhwani had joined the channel in September 2007. She had replaced Shantanu Aditya, who is now Executive Director, UTV Global Broadcasting Ltd, and CEO, UTV Entertainment Television Ltd.

An informed industry source has confirmed the development. However, at the time of filing the report, neither Rijhwani nor Sahara officials were available for comment.

Rijhwani has been associated with the media industry for almost two decades. Starting out at The Indian Express, where she managed new strategic ventures, she has had a tryst with the advertising business too. She spent a decade at Buena Vista, where she laid the foundation for the launch of many leading television channels in the country, including Disney, ESPN, DIRECTV, Hallmark and Kermit. She also launched and headed Fashion TV for a short period.

Her most recent success story is Ten Sports, which started out as a virtual underdog in the company of giants in the sports television genre, but emerged as the No. 1 sports channel in South Asia in less than five years under her leadership.
