Travellers through airports in Bengaluru, Delhi, and Hyderabad are in for a jolt – the message “Was She Killed to Make Your Carry-On? Cruelty Doesn’t Fly. Choose Vegan” showing a cow’s body as a leather handbag will adorn airport luggage trolleys ahead of Cow Appreciation Day (12 July). The new trolley ad will stay up throughout July.
“Every year, 1.4 billion cows, sheep, and goats and millions of other animals are abused and slaughtered for leather around the world,” says PETA India Senior Media and Celebrity Projects Coordinator Monica Chopra. “PETA India calls on everyone to choose cruelty-free carry-ons by sticking to vegan luggage.”
PETA India – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”, and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview – offers a “PETA-Approved Vegan” logo to help shoppers locate animal-friendly options.
