The Department of Pharmaceuticals has issued a uniform code for ensuring that the marketing of pharma products is conducted in a transparent manner with "integrity and accountability".
Uniform Code for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP) has provisions regarding the governing of conduct of the pharma companies and representatives.
The CEOs of pharma companies are responsible for the adherence to the marketing code.
UCPMP prohibits pharma companies from financial advantages or offering gifts or personal benefits to healthcare professionals.
Paid vacations, travel facilities and payment for tickets have come under the scanner too.
