In a push to keep up to date with a fast evolving digital sector, WPP has begun a process of extensive consolidation of its digital businesses, and part of this process will witness the merging of global marketing agency Young & Rubicam with the digital advertising firm, VML, according to media reports. VML CEO Jon Cook is expected to head the combined entity after the merger.

The internal restructuring is believed to be under the direction of WPP's newly appointed CEO Mark Read, in a move to ensure the company can keep up with the rapidly changing digital sector. The decision also comes after numerous clients have moved their business from WPP to online competitors such as Facebook and Google, in an effort to reach a wider audience.

Also according to reports, WPP's digital marketing agency, Wunderman is working with its creative firms towards greater access to consumer data, which will allow for more relevant advertising.
