Today we have father-daughter duo, Rana Kapoor, Founder, MD & CEO, YES Bank, and Roshini Kapoor, Co- founder of the Three Sisters, talking about family trips and motivational thoughts
Lokmat- New No 1 in Pune with exchange4media celebrates Father’s Day with #No1Dad, a five-day series where we get a glimpse of the other side of media veterans, through their children’s eyes. Today we have Rana Kapoor, Founder, MD & CEO, YES BANK and his daughter Roshini Kapoor, Co-Founder of The Three Sisters: Institutional Office and Executive Director of ART Capital (India) Private Limited.
The father- daughter duo love travelling and eating together, enabling the family to spend quality time together.
Ties That Bind
When we asked Roshini, what’s that one quality she adores in her father, ‘Preseverance’, pat comes the reply. “His journey as a self-made entrepreneur, having started and built Rabo India and more meaningfully YES BANK from scratch since Jan’ 2004 has imbibed in me the importance of determination and hard work in achieving one’s dreams. He still continues to work with as much vigour today, as he did when YES BANK was founded," says the proud daughter.
"My father is a busy man; our shared love for travelling enables us to spend quality time together. I have fond memories of our travels. We also manage to have 2-3 meals together every week and discuss the various initiatives and start-ups that I have founded with my two sisters," she adds.
Father- The Mentor
For Roshini, her father is a role model and she follows his footstep in her personal as well as professional life. "Dad has taught my sisters and me to dream big and not settle for mediocrity," she says.
“After my Masters at London Business School, I decided to start an Educational Initiative focused on the K-12 level and towards inculcating Entrepreneurship in children from an early age. Along with my sisters, I am focusing on creating a world-class Edutech hub, which embodies - DICE – Design, Innovation, and Creativity led Entrepreneurship."
According to Roshini, the most important aspect has been the independence her father gave her in pursuing her goals. Though he has been a banker for almost 4 decades, he never asked her to follow him into the field. “He allowed me to choose what I wanted to do and has supported me fully in pursuing my dream of being an Entrepreneur in the field of educational digitized financial services,” she adds.

The duo share the similarities of being very detail oriented and actualizing their dreams through hard work. Rana Kapoor says, "'Sunshine’ is the one word to describe my daughter. Just like her name, she lights up the lives of mostly everyone she interacts with."
One of the fondest memories that Roshini has of her father is their visit to EPCOT Center in Disney World, Orlando, where her father showed her Walt Disney’s famous saying, ‘If you can dream it, you can do it’. "Thus was born the entrepreneurial spirit in me."
Priceless Advice
The advice, which Mr. Kapoor wants to give his daughter is to “believe in yourself and chart your own journey."
Coming to tough situations, Roshini says that her father lives by the mantra that ‘the harder you work, the luckier you get’, which was passed on to him from his late father. "My father has instilled in us from the very beginning that in every adversity there is an opportunity and it is up to us to seize that opportunity," says Roshini.
