Indian FMCG margins hit by downturn, price war

While India has traditionally been a high margin market for FMCG companies, the situation has changed in the last few years. A prolonged downturn in the sector (now over), the introduction of 'two-for-one' schemes, the onset of price wars in some key segments, and the rising input costs have all combined to put pressure on the margins.

World Federation of Advertisers holds its first ever Asia Pacific Summit

The first Asia Pacific Summit of World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) was recently held in Hong Kong. What was interesting to note was that issues, which other Asian Advertisers Federations faced, were very similar to those faced by advertisers in India – self regulation versus government regulation, appropriate and accurate media measurement, and media monopolies (leading to high media prices).

Lowe takes the India example Worldwide

Lowe Worldwide’s top management is convinced that Lowe India has quite a lot that can be taken to the other Lowe offices. Tony Wright, CEO, Lowe Worldwide, expressed that one of the agendas of the Worldwide Board meeting, held in Mumbai from November 15 to 17, 2005, was to extend the Indian example to other markets.
