Being a mother is the most successful milestone in my career: Priti Murthy

She is undoubtedly the most outstanding woman in our life; an anchor that holds us steady through the ups and downs. In our countdown to Mother’s Day, we start a series dedicated to the lovely ladies of the industry who are not just dotting mothers but are also excelling in their careers. 

In the first edition of ‘Mom Boss’, we caught up with Priti Murthy, President, GroupM Nexus India. Mother to a nine-year-old boy, Murthy shares with us her thoughts on motherhood and the changing era where men and women share equal responsibilities. A passionate story-weaver with tremendous media expertise, Murthy is a supermom who believes that a mother who follows her passion is happier than the one who puts herself on the back burner to prioritize other personal obligations.

Sharing her thoughts on juggling her role of being a mother and the head of a company, Murthy said there is no choice as she wants to be a mom and have a thriving career too. 

“I don’t think there is a choice. I want a thriving career and I also want to be a mother. I believe I face the same challenges as any working father would. Times have changed and in this era, we are shouldering equal responsibilities with men - be it home, kids, and at the same time, have successful careers,” Murthy said.

Asked if her idea of success has changed after she became a mother, Murthy said that motherhood is the most successful milestone in her career. “I count being a mother as the most successful milestone in my career. I take great pride in being a mother to my 9-year-old and I strongly believe everything else is incidental,” she said.

Talking about her journey as the President of GroupM Nexus, Murthy said her company has achieved a lot in a short span and has executed several exciting campaigns. According to Murthy,  it’s an absolute delight to be leading a dynamic team that makes every day stimulating and inspiring with GroupM Nexus.

“We celebrated our second anniversary at the end of April and that itself speaks volumes about the success we have achieved in a short span. As GroupM’s activation engine, we have executed tons of exciting campaigns in the last two years.”

“We are that team that is driving excellence and integrating technology platforms in a consistent manner for a superior delivery experience. As we progress in this journey, we see GroupM Nexus evolving, and you will get to witness a lot of innovative and exhilarating campaigns in the coming months,” she said.

Murthy has advice for all the ambitious mothers out there:  be strong and clear about your priorities.

“Always keep in mind that life will throw a curveball at you, but you must remain focused. It can be incredibly rewarding to meet your kid/kids at the end of a long day at work. It makes every minute of the day worth millions.

“I always believe that a mother who follows her passion is happier than the one who puts herself on the back burner to prioritize other personal obligations. Trust me, your kid will be happy if you’re happy and content,” she said.
