Ekalavya Bhattacharya, Chief Strategy Officer, ALTBalaji, has put in his papers after serving the company for more than two years. Bhattacharya confirmed the development and described his stint at ALT Balaji as a “fantastic learning experience”.

“ALTBalaji has been a great experience. Being part of the initial team that launched pretty much India's first SVOD platform was incredible. Also, getting involved in the whole content creation process and working directly with Ekta Kapoor has been a fantastic learning experience.”

Moving ahead, Bhattacharya has set his sights on entrepreneurship with plans to dabble in content and fashion tech space. Given his vast experience of 12 years in the digital ecosystem content, this wasn’t a surprise at all.

He says, “My forte lies in the business of content. Before ALT, I spent five years at Viacom18 setting up the digital business at MTV from scratch. Consumption of content has evolved and we now are a generation of screenagers. Hence, this is the best time to be in the business of content. The aim is to be the 'corpus callosum' of the industry. Logic, data, business solutions coupled with creativity have massive appeal.”

But why tech fashion? He answers, “With Walmart's decision to buy Flipkart and Amazon continuing to grow in India, we can now safely say that e-commerce is no longer a fledgling industry with only start-ups. This ecommerce boom is going to give birth to a lot of tech-led startups, which will now operate under the greater ecommerce umbrella. Fashion-tech is one such industry which is going to greatly benefit. The plan is to be part of this industry and maximize the potential of AI and machine-learning with modern day manufacturing. I am partnering with some fantastic minds in design and tech to start up something really cool in this space!”

As mentioned earlier, the IIM-Calcutta alumnus was earlier with Viacom18 Media Private Ltd. where he was the AVP and Head – Digital, MTV India. He has previously worked with reputed digital firms such as Zapak.com, Contests2Win.com, WAT Consult and PaGaLGuY.com.
