Lenovo has announced the decision to launch its Android/ Windows hybrid U1 Ideapad and also the LePad, the laptop-tablet mashup, in India. Lenovo India MD Amar Babu confirmed that the two devices would be available in India later this year.

The device is a very unique take on the laptop/ tablet category as it works as a regular Windows netbook for the most part, which is very handy for content creation and typing in things. However, when you want to simply consume content, use it as an e-reader, or send some mails while in bed, you can detach the monitor and carry it along with you, where it starts to function as a 10.1” Android tablet.

The company has not announced an exact price or date of launch, but Babu stated that the device would be available in India only after a critical volume of sales was achieved in China, where it would reportedly be available from March of 2011.

The price of the digit has been speculated by experts to be between $400 and $500, which would price it far more competitively than other tablet devices, though its experimental nature might deter large scale adoption.
