National Creators Award: Maithili Thakur bags Cultural Ambassador of the Year title

Maithili Thakur, the popular Indian playback singer, bagged the title of Cultural Ambassador of the Year at the National Creators Award. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the first-ever National Creators Award to digital influencers on March 8 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

The National Creators Award was given across 20 categories. It is an effort to recognize excellence and impact across domains, including storytelling, social change advocacy, environmental sustainability, education, and gaming among others. The award is envisioned as a launchpad for using creativity to drive positive change.

After receiving the award, Maithili Thakur also performed a devotional song for Bhagwan Shiv on the occasion of Mahashivratri, at the Prime Minister’s request.

Thakur, born on July 25, 2000, is a trained singer in Indian classical music and Folk Music. She performs original songs, covers and traditional folk music in multiple Indian languages. In the past, Thakur appeared in Little Champs on Zee TV, Indian Idol Junior on Sony TV and in season 1 of Rising Star.

Apart from Maithili Thakur, several other popular digital creators like Shraddha Jain, Aman Gupta, Ranveer Allahbadia (BeerBiceps)Drew HicksKamiya JaniGaurav Chaudhary aka Technical Guruji, among others were honoured for their creativity and outstanding work.

Maithili shot to fame on Rising Star after she sang Om Namah Shivaya song which gained her direct entry into the final. She was runner up, losing out by just two votes. Following the show, her internet popularity rose significantly.
