For the 9th year in a row, Radio Mango has won big at the Golden Mikes Radio Advertising Awards. In its highest ever haul, the regional radio station bagged 5 metals.

The winning entries for this year were ‘KaliCar’ which brought the spirit of the FIFA World Cup to listeners, ‘Typing Typing’ that exhorted listeners to think before they hit ‘send’ on a message on social media and an interactive segment headlined by Shashi Tharoor, called ‘Shashi Tharoor: Malayalam Medium’. While the first two entries earned two awards each, the last picked up one.

KaliCar, an amalgam of the words ‘Kali’ meaning game and ‘Car’ – also a pun on the Malayalam words for ‘players’ – literally painted cars in team colours of some of the most favoured teams in the state. Listeners could board the car related to their favourite team and answer trivia questions related to the team. The number of questions answered correctly would determine how far the car would go.

‘Typing Typing’ was based on the time you stare at a screen as someone is ‘typing’ a message. The PSA called for taking a moment to think about what you were sending before actually hitting ‘send’.

Shashi Tharoor, renowned for his penchant for using rare and highly complex words in his tweets, was sporting enough to take a shot at himself as he turned the tables and asked listeners to find the meaning to highly complex Malayalam words used by others in their tweets.
