So you’ve had your share of social media filters and Pokemon Go. Wondering what’s the next offering in Augmented Reality you could have some fun with? How about an A-list star offering you a chance to display your acting chops before him? Radio Mango’s 91.9 Lucifer Challenge is perhaps the first time in Indian radio that Augmented Reality was put into play for a movie promotion – something the listeners could have fun with, while awaiting what is perhaps the most anticipated movie of the year: Lucifer.
The movie has one A-list star, Prithviraj, donning the director’s mantle for the very first time and directing none other than the superstar of Malayalam movies, Mohanlal. Apart from Prithviraj and Mohanlal, Lucifer also features Vivek Oberoi, Manju Warrier and Tovino Thomas in pivotal roles.
This is how it worked: Listeners were invited to download the 919 Lucifer Challenge app from Playstore. You first got a welcome message from Mohanlal himself. Thereafter, you could record yourself acting out a milestone moment from a Mohanlal movie with the star himself watching you and sharing screen space with you. This had to be posted to Facebook or Instagram and the videos with the most views got the chance to meet the star and win prizes. The unique pull of the activity however, was the chance to have Mohanlal appear in AR in your own personalised videos, seemingly within listeners’ homes and offices. Listeners could also scan posters of the movie to watch the trailer via the app.
The Augmented Reality app was a first for Malayalam movie promotions and is sure to spawn a lot of interest in the future too.
