IPL 9: Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers attracts 20 mn impressions in week 5

The fifth week saw increased viewership with the match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers on May 11 garnering 20 million impressions

In the fifth week of VIVO IPL, the match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers on May 11 garnered maximum viewership of 20 million impressions across its official broadcasters like Sony Max, Sony Six (SD+HD) and Sony ESPN (SD+HD). On Sony Max it garnered 14 million impressions followed by 4 million impressions on Sony Six and 1.9 million impressions on Sony ESPN.

Interestingly previous week’s match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 2 had similar ratings.

The trend of early weekend matches (the one between Royal Challengers and Rising Pune Supergiants on May 7 and that between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 8), earning lowest ratings continued, though it showed a slight improvement from 8 million to 11 million impressions this week.

The fourth week of the IPL got an average of 15 million impressions across all the five channels. Sony Max continued earning the highest average of 10.8 million impressions followed by sports channels Sony Six (3 million impressions) and Sony ESPN (1 million impressions). This time there is a renewed interest towards the tournament as it was higher than the previous week where it managed an average of 14 million impressions.

Hindi movie channel Sony Max returned to the top spot in BARC’s chart under the category ‘Across All Genres’ with 944 million impressions in Week 19 ( 7-13 May, 2016)  after it slipped to second position with 881 million impressions in Week 18 (30 April- 6 May, 2016).
