Netizens and cricket fans trended #JioCrash on Twitter on day one of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The official digital streaming partner of the tournament received backlash from viewers who said that they faced buffering issues and app crashes.
The app crashed during the first match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujrat Titans.

JioCinema responded to a few tweets expressing regret over the situation.
In the recent past, JioCinema faced similar backlash during the FIFA World Cup 2022. The feedback from football fans also promoted the platform to acknowledge the problems and issue an apology for the service.
This is the first time that the media rights for the T20 league has been split between two networks. This is also the first time that the digital rights for the tournament was sold for a higher price than the TV rights.
While Disney Star India has retained the TV rights of IPL for Rs 23,575 crore, Reliance-backed Viacom18 grabbed the digital rights for the league with a bid of Rs 23,758 crore, which amounts to Rs 50 crore per match.
