A sports day with Jetix came alive on January 19, 2008 at the Nizam Grounds in Hyderabad. The tournament engaged students aged 7-14 years in an unconventional game play, which involved teamwork along with physical and mental skills. The Jetix Action League plans to go to Chennai and Bangalore after this.

Antoine Villeneuve, MD and Senior VP, Walt Disney Television International (India), said, “We are overwhelmed by the encouraging response to Jetix Action League in the twin cities. Jetix represents action adventure entertainment with all the positive values of teamwork and camaraderie. We are happy to engage kids in outdoor activities while ensuring that they understand the spirit and values of Jetix on-air programming.”

The tournament kicked off with schools taking an introductory lap of the Nizam Grounds. The participating schools soon teamed up to compete in unconventional games such as 30-legged race, frog relay, etc. Kids also immensely enjoyed Frisbee soccer, a traditional soccer game played with a Jetix twist where a Frisbee replaced the football and the goal keeper guarded a mobile goal post. The teams displayed their mettle during games such as Bellyball and Wheel Barrow, among others.

The winning school bagged a prize of Rs 1 lakh. N C Karunya of ‘Indian Idol’ fame was present on the occasion to encourage the teams with his live performance. He later handed over the ‘Jetix Action League Games Trophy’ to the winning school team captain. Jetix will also organise an adventure camp for all the winning teams to experience the Jetix superhero life.

The channel had conducted its school contact programme across south India earlier this month to encourage students to team up for this unique sports competition.
