From Ranveer Singh's 'Apna time aayega' to Alia Bhatt's 'Mar jayega tu', several dialogues from the 2-minute-40-second trailer have been immortalised as hilarious memes. The Mumbai Police, which is known to have its social media game on point, also jumped on the bandwagon. As Alia’s dialogue, ‘Mar Jayega Tu’ became fodder for the meme-maker online, the cops used the line to make an important point about road safety. “When he argues to ride a motorcycle without wearing a helmet,” they tweeted. But instead of the viral hashtag of #GullyBoy they altered it to #SillyBoy,” the caption read.

Fans also superimposed faces of other celebrities on the Gully Boy poster and replaced the film’s title with a biting joke at the expense of the new subject. For instance, Virat Kohli’s poster carried the title, ‘Gaali Boy’ while Shahid Afridi’s poster had the title, ‘Well Played Boys’.
