COVID-19: Shooting for films, TV shows and web series put on halt from March 19 to 31

A statement issued by the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association said that the decision to resume shooting will be taken on March 30 after considering the prevailing situation

The shooting of films, TV serials, web series and all other formats entertainment, including digital, has been put on a halt for the period March 19 to 31 as part of precautionary measures for the Coronavirus threat.

The Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) in a joint meeting with Western India Film Producers' Association (WIPFA), Indian Film and Television Producers Council (IFTPC), Indian Film and Television Director's Association (IFTDA) and the federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have unanimously decided to stop the shootings. All cinema halls will remain shut and events organised by sporting educational institutions and entertainment bodies have been cancelled in the wake of the government of India declaring a medical emergency.

A press statement released by the IMPPA said: “We appreciate and support all the steps taken by the government of India to control the virus. All units shooting till the stoppage comes into force have been strictly advised to follow all precautionary and preventive measures without fail.”

The decision to resume shootings will be taken on March 30 after considering the prevailing situation, the statement said.

Producers Guild of India, CEO, Kulmeet Makkar said, “The health and safety of our colleagues is of paramount importance to the Producers Guild of India. The industry’s united decision to suspend shooting between the period 19 March - 31 March, 2020 is the need of the hour and we fully support it. In the coming days, we will discuss details with our members on the modalities of postponing our production plans keeping in mind the on-going threat of COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the situation and take further decisions accordingly.”

Globally too, as part of precautionary measures film studios have decided to pause the production of shows and web series as it can put a lot of people at risk of the virus.
