India has 393 news channels & 3,700 digital news publishers: Govt

In response to an unstarred question from Aam Aadmi Party politician and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora on July 26, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting revealed that India has 393 private satellite news TV channels and over 3,700 digital news publishers.

The information was provided by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Railways, and Electronics and Information Technology.

The ministry clarified that these TV channels are permitted under the Policy Guidelines for Uplinking and Downlinking of Satellite TV Channels. The full list of these channels can be accessed on the Broadcast Seva Portal.

Additionally, over 3,700 digital news publishers have submitted information under Rule 18 of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
