Jagdish Khattar, Managing Director, Maruti Udyog, has been chosen as Person of the Year by Auto Monitor, India's first B2B publication, in view of his contribution to the automotive industry in 2006.

The awards, now in their third year, honour the best in automotive excellence, and were given out in eight categories including Human Resource Initiative of the Year, Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year, Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year, Auto Component Manufacturer of the Year, Young Achiever of the Year and two special Awards — Car Manufacturer of the Year and Bike Manufacturer of the Year.

Auto Monitor had invited entries from companies across the country for the Young Achiever of the Year award. The jury, after deliberations, found no one suitable to be conferred with the honour this year.

Prakash Iyer, Managing Director, Infomedia India Ltd, which publishes Auto Monitor, urged the Indian auto industry to continue being focussed and said this industry had played a leading role in the growth and prosperity of the Indian economy.

While Metzler Automotive Profiles India bagged the Human Resources Initiative award, Mahindra & Mahindra won the Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative award for its project Nanhi Kali, which is a KC Mahindra Education Trust project for the underprivileged girl child.

Volvo India was Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year. Minda Industries bagged the Auto Component Manufacturer of the Year award. Bajaj Auto was declared Bike Manufacturer of the Year, while Maruti Udyog won the Car Manufacturer of the Year award.
