MIPCOM has announced 11 winners of the second MIPCOM DVD Awards. The international trophies were presented on October 17 during the 21st edition of MIPCOM, the world’s audiovisual content market.
Launched in June 2004 and organised in partnership with the DVD Association of the US and the International Video Federation, Belgium, the MIPCOM DVD Awards are given in recognition of creativity and innovation in DVD content; web features and interactivity; programme content restoration; special features; navigation and graphic design.
This year’s Awards boasted three new categories – music, games and sport – which brought the total number of categories up to 10.
British comedian Julian Clary hosted the Awards ceremony, which was sponsored by Warner Bros and the American catalogue for cultural programmes, Kultur.
“The success of the second edition of MIPCOM DVD Awards shows the importance of this annual event in Cannes,” declared Paul Johnson, Director of the Television Division, Reed MIDEM. “The 11 award winners have demonstrated once again the diversity and creativity in DVD editorial content,” he added.
The 11 winners are in the various categories included:
TV Series (English-language) – “Deadwood The Complete First Season”, HBO Video, USA
TV Series (original version non-English) – “Samantha”, France Télévision Distribution, France
Children/Youth Fiction – “La Maledizione della Prima Luna / Il Disco Perduto”, Walt Disney, Italy
Children/Youth Animation – “Bambi”, Walt Disney, Italy
Non-Fiction (documentaries, sports, leisure etc, excluding music) – “Insectia Un Voyage aux 4 Coins de la Planète”, Imavision, Canada
Film (English-language) – “Gone With the Wind”, Warner Home Video, France
Film (original version other than English) - Lars Von Trier “Europe Trilogy”, Electric Parc, UK
Music - Paul McCartney, “Live in Red Square”, A&E Home Video/Blink, USA
Sport – “Le Tour de France 2005”, France Télévision Distribution, France
Games – “Scene it: Music Edition” - Screen Life, Walt Disney, USA
Grand Jury Prize – “Gone with the Wind”, Warner Home Video, France
