Obit: G Kasturi, former editor of The Hindu, passes away

G Kasturi was the longest serving Editor of The Hindu, from September 1965 to January 1991 – for over 25 years

G Kasturi, former Editor of The Hindu and former Managing Director of Kasturi and Sons Ltd, the proprietors of The Hindu Group publications, passed away early on September 21. He was 87.

Kasturi was the longest serving Editor of The Hindu, from September 1965 to January 1991 – for over 25 years. He was instrumental in The Hindu’s rapid expansion and growth on the editorial-technology-logistics fronts through the 1960s and the beginning of the 1990s.

Kasturi’s sons K Balaji and K Venugopal and daughter Lakshmi Srinath are whole-time Directors of Kasturi and Sons Ltd. His nephew, N Ram, is the former Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu.

Incidentally, The Hindu celebrated its 134th anniversary on September 20, 2012.
