Shyamanuja Das, the voice of Odia culture, passes away

Shyamanuja Das, Editorial Director of 9.9 Group, research scholar and a well-known voice of Odia culture, has passed away. He was 53.

Das, a computer engineer by qualification, joined Voice & Data magazine (Cyber Media) in 1994 after graduating with a diploma in journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communications, New Delhi.

He went on to launch a publication targeted at the Indian offshore BPO industry, BPOrbit.

Shyamanuja Das was subsequently appointed as Editor for Dataquest magazine.

In 2012, he joined JuxtConsult to focus on advisory opportunities in the digital economy space.

Das also founded the non-profit DataJourno community to popularize data journalism among journalists and journalism students.

He also co-founded the "Odias in Machine Learning" Group and was active in organizing numerous Odia cultural initiatives.
