Umesh Upadhyay's book 'Western Media Narratives on India from Gandhi to Modi' hits stands

The book has been published in English through Rupa Publications

Senior journalist Umesh Upadhyay's new book "Western Media Narratives on India from Gandhi to Modi" has hit the market. This book has been published in English through Rupa Publications.

"Western Media Narratives on India" explores how cultural imperialism affects third-world countries and how in the hands of former colonizers, who wish to maintain their dominance, the media has become a tool to direct people's thoughts. Focusing on India, the narrative spans from the country's independence in 1947 to the present day, examining the persistent targeting of Indian leadership by major Western English media.

This book shows how the English press perpetuates the West's long-standing prejudices against India. Taking inspiration from history, this book critically analyzes and exposes the origin and causes of this prejudice. Despite being rooted in the Indian experience, the lessons drawn from it have universal relevance for any nation struggling with the shadow of colonialism.

Regarding this book, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh says, "Umesh Upadhyay, through his book based on rigorous research, has clearly shown how the Western media has traditionally been biased and negative, which has distorted the perception of India." Presents the image. These unbalanced images now appear to be at odds with India's stature as an emerging global power of the twenty-first century in this technology-driven world. Upadhyay has rightly said that if the Western media does not change its attitude towards India, its credibility will be in danger. This book is indeed a very interesting and informative read.”

Noted economist and bestselling author Sanjeev Sanyal says about the book: “Global narratives, including external perceptions of India, have so far been driven exclusively by the Western media for their own purposes. In this book, Umesh Upadhyay narrates the history with clarity and undeniable evidence of how this distorted media narrative has been used to degrade India's position in the world since 1947."
