IRS Q2 2010: Four of Top 10 dailies see decline in AIR; no change in order seen among top 5 dailies; Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar lead again

The Indian Readership Survey (IRS) Q2 2010 results have shown no major changes in the top dailies in the country. Dainik Jagran and Dainik Bhaskar continue to lead the pack. There is no change seen in the order of the top five publications even as there are changes in the readership figures. Four of the Top 10 dailies have seen decline in readership in this quarter.

Dainik Jagran and Dainik Bhaskar, although securing the top positions, have witnessed declines of 2.38 per cent and 0.20 per cent, respectively, and so is the case with Amar Ujala, which has seen a decline of 0.87 per cent.

Among the top five publications, Hindustan and Malayala Manorama have witnessed growths of 2.3 per cent and 2.69 per cent, respectively.

Among the next five publications, only Mathrubhumi, which stands at No. 10, has seen a decline from an AIR of 6,698,000 in Q1 to 6,566,000 in Q2, a decline of 1.97 per cent. Lokmat, on the other hand, has seen a marginal growth of 0.55 per cent in readership, while Daily Thanthi has grown by 0.67 per cent. Similarly, The Times of India and Rajasthan Patrika have grown by 0.75 per cent and 3.22 per cent, respectively.

Among the next 10 publications, three have seen de-growth. Dinakaran at No. 14 has witnessed a 2.93 per cent decline, while Vijay Karnataka at No. 20 has declined by 1.92 per cent. Hindustan Times is the other English daily, apart from The Times of India, to be featured among the Top 20 dailies, but has seen a decline of 0.40 per cent.

The highest growth has come from Gujarati publication Divya Bhaskar; its AIR has grown from 3,250,000 in Q1 to 3,388,000 in Q2, a growth of 4.25 per cent.
