IRS Q2 2010: Magazines perform better than dailies in Bangalore market
The Bangalore market has seen good numbers, giving some much needed hope to the print industry. What is interesting to note is that as per the IRS Q2 2010 results, magazines have seen tremendous growth in the Bangalore market. The Week has seen the highest growth among magazines, while among dailies, Prajavani has seen the most growth in average issue readership (AIR).
The Bangalore market has seen good numbers, giving some much needed hope to the print industry. What is interesting to note is that as per the IRS Q2 2010 results, magazines have seen tremendous growth in the Bangalore market.
Among the dailies, Vijay Karnataka leads with an AIR of 671,000 in Q2, as compared to 662,000 in Q1, a growth of 1.36 per cent. Prajavani follows in second spot with an AIR of 610,000 in Q2, showing the highest growth among magazines at 13.38 per cent. Both The Times of India and Deccan Herald have seen decline in AIR. The Times of India has recorded an AIR of 330,000 in Q2 down 2.65 per cent from Q1 figure of 339,000. Deccan Herald has seen a 6.29 per cent decline in AIR, from 175,000 in Q1to 164,000 in this quarter. Kannada Prabha, placed fifth, has seen a growth of 2.61 per cent in AIR at 157,000.
Among the magazines, India Today (Eng) leads, but has seen a decline of 8.70 per cent. Its AIR in Q2 stands at 63,000, as compared to 69,000 in Q1. No. 2 player Grih Sobha (Kan), too, has seen a decline of 4.76 per cent and now stands at 60,000, as compared to 63,000 in Q1 2010. Sudha has seen the maximum growth of 45 per cent and has a readership figure of 58,000 Q2 2010 as compared to 40,000 in Q1 2010. The Week too has seen a healthy growth of 22.50 per cent and the figure is 49,000 in Q2 2010 as compared to 40,000 in Q1 2010. At number five is Taranga with a growth of 12.12 per cent with a figure of 37,000 in Q2 2010 as compared to 33,000 in Q1 2010.
