IRS Q2 2010: TOI’s might continues in Mumbai; positive growth boosts other players too
According to the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) Q2 2010 Q2 data, The Times of India has once again topped the list in Mumbai, way ahead of the rest of the pack. Mumbai Mirror, a publication from The Times of India Group, is placed second, followed by DNA. Hindustan Times, which leads in Delhi, has to make do with the fourth place in Mumbai, registering a growth in AIR of 4.65 per cent.

According to the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2010 Q2 data, The Times of India has again topped the list, way ahead from the rest of the pack. Not only did The Times of India maintain its lead, it also grew its AIR by 1.86 per cent. Mumbai Mirror, a publication of The Times of India group, was the second on the list followed by DNA on third. Hindustan Times garnered the forth spot with a growth in AIR of 4.65 per cent.
The Times of India has recorded an AIR of 1,478,000 in Q2, as against an AIR of 1,451,000 in the previous quarter, a growth of 1.86 per cent. However, both Mumbai Mirror and DNA have recorded negative growth of 5.30 per cent and 0.66 per cent, respectively. Mid-Day, which is place fifth in the Mumbai market, has also recorded a negative growth in AIR.
What is heartening to note is that only three of the Top 10 newspapers in Mumbai have recorded negative growth, which presents a promising picture. These positive growths mean that there is sort of a ‘balancing of power’ with DNA, Hindustan Times and Mid-Day seemingly ready to take on the might of The Times of India Group in the Mumbai market.
