Los Angeles Times Executive Editor Kevin Merida steps down

The publication won three Pulitzer Prizes under his leadership

Kevin Merida, Executive Editor of the Los Angeles Times, has  stepped down after dedicating over two years to leading the newsroom. Merida took the helm with a mission to fortify the organization amidst the challenges facing the news industry.

In a heartfelt note to the staff, Merida expressed his departure decision, stating, “Today, with a heavy heart, I announce that I am leaving The Times. I made the decision, in consultation with Patrick, after considerable soul-searching about my career at this stage and how I can best be of value to the profession I love.”

Throughout his tenure, Merida played a pivotal role in steering The Times to notable achievements, with the newsroom clinching three Pulitzer Prizes under his leadership. 

Merida's departure marks the end of an era characterized by significant journalistic accomplishments and a commitment to navigating the turbulent waters of the news industry.
