After its recent coverage of the Patiala House incident, Kolkata based newspaper -The Telegraph is once again topping the social media trends. On Thursday the newspaper questioned the silence on the part of the prime minister about the ongoing JNU controversy, which has now spiralled into a nationwide agitation. It’s headline-- ‘THE NASHUN’ written as NA and SHUN in bold red highlighted the message that when people in power shun their responsibilities, this happens.
With its anti-establishment stance, The Telegraph is the front runner in the nationwide campaign against the repression of the freedom of speech.
On Tuesday the newspaper carried the image of rights activist and CPI supporter Ameeque Jamei being beaten by a group led by BJP legislator OP Sharma outside the Patiala House Court. Journalists like Shekhar Gupta, Barkha Dutt and Rajdeep Sardesai shared and tweeted the newspaper’s brave take on the coverage. However, few senior journalists whom we spoke to opined that The Telegraph was setting an unprecedented trend not because of its bold reporting but owing to its great presentation, good visuals and attempt at getting maximum mileage on social media.
This is how Twitterati reacted to The Telegraphs’ reportage:
