People of Kolkata can now have their voice and viewpoints heard across the city, thanks to an innovative concept of Friends 91.9 FM. The Kolkata-based FM station is introducing a new show, ‘Bari Theke Bolchi’, from January 14, 2008, which will give listeners a chance to host their own shows from home. The programme will be aired on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
To take part, listeners will have to call the station and leave a 45-second message about himself/herself. Based on these messages, the station will chose one person to host an hour-long show from home.
Elaborating on the new show, Jaideep Banerjee, Programming Head, Friends 91.9 FM, said, “For the first time on radio, a concept has been created keeping ‘consumer empowerment’ in mind. ‘Bari Theke Bolchi’ empowers the listener to address lakhs of people, thereby not only making his/her voice heard, but more importantly, his point of view. It is taking listener interaction, which has so far been limited to interactions with the radio jockey and participation in contests, many notches higher.”
Friends FM, which targets mostly Bengalis, is optimistic about the programme striking the right chord with the Bengalis and Bengali-speaking people in the city.
