The Malayala Manorama Group is all set to launch its FM radio venture. Christened as ‘Radio Mango’, the station will predominantly play Malayalam music; except in Kochi, where the channel would also play some Hindi and English music. The Group has licences to operate FM stations in Kochi, Thrissur, Kannur and Kozhikode.

The frequency for the stations in the four cities is 91.9 FM. The Group has roped in Ravi Nair as Content Head, who was earlier Programming Head at Radio Asia, a UAE-based FM station.

Radio Mango will have a variety of programmes and will entertain audiences round-the-clock. The programming mix will include stories, songs, as also impart knowledge. Experts who have been in the field for years will anchor all the programmes.

Young RJs who have proved their mettle abroad, and who were selected through a special talent hunt that took place across Kerala, will join Radio Mango.

The search for a name for the station that would remain in the minds of the listeners like the delicious mango nectar led to the name ‘Radio Mango’. The Group is expected to bid for more licenses in the third phase of bidding. “Subject to the sanction by the central government, other cities will also hum and swing in the future,” said an official communiqué from Malayala Manorama. The logo of Radio Mango will be unveiled soon.
