Broadband subscribers up by 50 lakh in June 2024: TRAI report
According to the report, the number has increased from 9,351 lakh at the end of May ’24 to 9,407 lakh at the end of June ’24
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a report saying the total number of broadband subscribers in the country has increased by 50 lakh within the month of June.
According to the report released on Tuesday, the total broadband subscribers increased from 935.13 million at the end of May’24 to 940.75 million at the end of June’24 with a monthly growth rate of 0.60%.
Among these, wired subscribers stood at 41.83 million in June, up by 1.27 % compared to the month of May. Mobile device users (phones and dongles) stood at 898.2 million, up by 0.57 % compared to previous month and fixed wireless subscribers (Wi-fi, Wi-Max, Point-to-point radio and VSAT) stood at 7 lakhs, down by 0.6%.
The report said that the information was received from 1216 operators in June, 2024, in comparison to 1212 operators in May 2024.
The top five broadband service providers include Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd with a subscriber base of 489 million, followed by Bharti Airtel Ltd with 281 million subscribers, Vodafone Idea Ltd with 127.8 million subscribers, BSNL with 25 million subscribers and Atria Convergence Technologies Ltd with 2.2 million subscribers, the report said.
The market share of these five broadband service providers stood at 98.37 %, it said.
According to the report, total wireless subscribers increased from 1,168.95 million at the end of May’24, to 1,170.53 million at the end of June’24, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.13%.
Wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 634.10 million at the end of May’24 to 635 million at the end of June’24 and wireless subscription in rural areas also increased from 534.85 million to 535.53 million during the same period.
Monthly growth rate of urban and rural wireless subscription was 0.14% and 0.13% respectively.
