Doordarshan has established a major eye network in the country, said Sanjay Jaju at an informal meeting with the press in Delhi. “Our Free Dish network has reached more than 5 crore homes in the country, which is a big achievement,” said the I&B Ministry Secretary.

He further revealed that almost 25% of the broadcasting is now happening through the DD Free Dish and it is an affordable, almost free-of-cost system.

DD Free Dish is producing about 300 channels today, out of which, about 200 channels are educational channels. Hence, there is a huge social and economic impact of the program that is going on through DD Free Dish, according to the minister.

In every language, there are representative numbers of channels in our country. But in spite of all these proliferations, every broadcaster must do his or her part. This is why mutual co-existence of public and private sector is an integral part of the development of the industry, said Jaju.

He said, “Today, the main feed of all important programmes is through Doordarshan and Prasar Bharati broadcasting. The regional channels where no commerce is involved and there is not enough business or volume for any other channel to have an interest in it, Doordarshan has kept its interest faring.”

Doordarshan has its own remarkable HD content and at the same time, look, feel, professionalism is seen in every aspect of the channel. He highlighted that even today every person goes to check the DD Free Dish programme because the news is presented correctly and the content is credible.

"DD Free Dish is providing a large segment of our country with entertainment, news, education, sports, and all kinds of content. For this, I would like to thank all the officials of DD Free Dish and all the people who are involved in the refurbishment of DD Free Dish," the minister concluded.
