The permissions of various channels have been cancelled by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) for various reasons, as per media reports. The cancellations were done post an in-depth study of review of the companies operating them.

So far, permissions of 71 channels have been cancelled due to reasons ranging from non-operationalisation, non-submission of PBG (Performance Bank Guarantee) to surrender of permission, according to a statement made by I&B Minister Manish Tewari as per media reports.

Tewari said that six companies were found to have changed their board of directors without the prior approval of MIB.

Fifteen companies were found to have effected change in their shareholding pattern in violation of clauses under uplinking guidelines, these companies have been issued with showcause notices.

Eleven companies that had been issued notices by the MIB regarding their corresponding channels and had not responded to these notices, have been issued showcause notices, while permission of one of them has been cancelled.
