MIB issues showcause notice to Tiranga TV
Tiranga TV warned for telecasting media briefing of Pakistan army spokesperson
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued a warning to Tiranga TV for allegedly violating the programming code of the Cable TV Networks Act by telecasting prohibitive content, media reports said.
Tiranga TV telecast a media briefing of Pakistan army spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor on the Pulwama terror attack on February 22, the report said.
Channels have been reportedly asked not to broadcast content that could lead to violence or subjects that may lead to law and ordre issues or which promotes anti-national attitude or affects the country’s integrity.
The MIB has said Tiranga TV has violated the code and this advisory. The channel has been given seven days to respond to the showcause notice.
The channel has said that the press conference was only carried as part of overall news coverage.
