MIB tells channels not to malign or slander any individual

Amid deabtes over the reportage of some recent events, the Ministry of Inormation and Broadcasting (MIB) ha issued an adviory to private news channels asking them to abide by the programming code.
In a release issued on Friday the ministry stated, "on various occassions in the past, this ministry has issued advisories to private satellite TV channels to broadcast content strictly adhereing to the Programme and Advertising Codes as prescrbed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995."
"The attention is also drwan to the following provisions of the Programme Code which provide that no programme should contain:
1. Anything obscene, defamatory, deliberate, false and suggestive innuendos and half truths.
2. Criticises, maligns or slander any individual in person or certain groups, segments of social, public and moral life of the country.
