Late Gautam Adhikari and his brother Markand Adhikari had started Sri Adhikari Brothers (SAB) Group in 1985 as a small family owned partnership firm. The company initially produced serials in Marathi but soon ventured into film distribution and production business.
SAB Group is a leading Indian M&E conglomerate with interests in broadcast, films, content production and publishing. The group also established SAB channel, which runs Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah among other popular shows.
In 1995, the SAB Group became the first publicly-listed television production company in India. The company began by producing Marathi TV shows, but later branched out into film distribution and production. Late Gautam Adhikari also directed several television series including Hello Inspector, Commandar, Marshall, Silsila and Waqt Ki Raftar.
