Senior journalist and India TV editor-in-chief Rajat Sharma has denied allegations of using abusive language on air.

Representatives for Sharma have labelled the accusations as "absolutely false and lacking any basis or foundation”, describing them as "malicious and defamatory".

"We are currently seeking legal advice on how to proceed further," a statement read.

"We reiterate that Mr. Sharma has never used abusive language in private or public life. Inferences drawn from the non-existent and imaginary are per se defamatory. We reserve the right to take further legal action," the statement added.

The statement was issued after Congress national spokesperson Ragini Nayak accused Rajat Sharma of abusing her on live television.
