Saying goodbye to Arun Nautiyal, journalism’s gentle giant: Anasuya Roy
Nautiyal’s sudden demise has come as a huge shock for his colleagues and friends
It was a huge shock to hear of the untimely death of Arun Nautiyal. No, I have never worked with him but I have always heard about him . He worked with my husband in various news organisations. My husband Deepak Chaurasia at present is participating in the reality show Bigg Boss and is completely cut off from the outside world. He will be shattered to hear about this loss.
Arunji’s going away is a big loss to the entire journalist community. He was a silent man who made his presence quietly. Be it an anchor or an intern, he was ready to help everyone as much as possible. In our crazy newsrooms where shouting at each other has become the norm, Arun ji was one person who would never lose his coo . Under the greatest stress he would never panic. He would always smile and try to calm his colleagues. What I have heard from others is that he had a very sharp journalistic sense.Long hours did not bother him, he would reach office earlier than most and stay on to ensure everything was done the right way.
His going away has come as a huge shock for his colleagues and friends. Today when I spoke to a few of them they were still not ready to accept the harsh reality. The smile on his face is how all of them are remembering him. As I write this I am wondering how I will break this news to Deepak when he comes out.
Arun Nautiyal is survived by his wife and daughter. We will all miss you Arunji.
