Sun TV to enter Marathi & Bengali regions by next financial year
The broadcaster is planning to launch two channels in Marathi and Bengali regions by next financial year.
The Kalanithi Maran owned company, Sun TV Network is planning to extending its reach to other regional markets. The broadcaster is planning to launch two channels in Marathi and Bengali regions by next financial year.
A sources close to the development confirmed the news to exchange4media and said, “ The plan is there to launch two channels in these two markets. Though right now, developments are in initial stage but the network is trying to launch channels in FY 18-19.”
Last year in June, the network launched its digital platform Sun NXT enabling customers to watch their favourite TV programmes in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada
Sun TV is a leading player in South India with a bouquet of 33 channels across four South Indian languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The company first went public in the year 2006 and raised Rs 600 crore. The Network’s flagship channel Sun TV corners more than 60 per cent market share in the Tamil GEC genre.
Apart from the broadcast business, the group has a strong presence in radio and films production. The group also runs two daily newspapers, five magazines and owns a DTH platform called Sun Direct. It owns franchise of the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
