‘Thanks to NP Singh’s leadership, Sony today is the most profitable media company’
Former CEO of Sony Kunal Dasgupta shares how NP Singh has contributed to the company's growth over the years
Thanks to NP Singh’s leadership, Sony today is the most profitable media company in the country, said Kunal Dasgupta, founder and CEO of Triplecom Media. Dasgupta is former CEO of Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI).
Remembering his experience of working with Singh, Dasgupta said in 1997-98, when he was the CEO, Singh was the CFO.
"When I left in 2009, he had become our Chief Operating Officer. After that, Manjeet Singh took over from me, and five years later, in 2014, he became the CEO. He spent 10 years as CEO. Having spent 25 years at Sony, he's a veteran, very reliable, dependable, and efficient person."
"He is very calm and cool, making sound decisions," He mentioned. Dasgupta and Singh worked together for 11 years.
"I always felt that he would take over from me, but I think Sony kept a little gap in between, and eventually, he proved that he could take over. He did a great job and built the company up after that."
He added, "He added so many more new channels. Today the company is the most profitable media company among all the television companies. It is the best-run company in the media space, largely thanks to his leadership. So, I have nothing but great regard for him."
"He's leaving at a time when the market dynamics are changing, and probably he feels that he has done his bit now. This business requires constant innovation because the market changes are very fast. He has handled all the changes very well."
Dasgupta's response comes as NP Singh on Friday announced that he has decided to move on from his role as MD and CEO of SPNI and that he was ready to shift from operational roles to advisory ones.
However, Singh will continue to lead SPNI till the right person is found to take over.
“I will continue to lead SPNI until we find the right person to take over. We have begun a structured succession planning process for my successor and hope to have exciting news to share in the near future. Finding the right fit is our top priority,” he said in his letter.
