Top Indian media exec Uday Shankar will be stepping down as the President of The Walt Disney Company (APAC) and Chairman of Star & Disney India, a role he has been serving since February 2019. On the event of his departure from one of the biggest posts in the Indian media industry, e4m reached out to top thought leaders for their views on the development. CVL Srinivas, Country Manager, India, WPP, speaks about the massive impact Shankar has had on the Media and Entertainment industry as a whole.
"He set the most audacious goals and managed to achieve them," Srinivas says. Speaking about Shankar's mentorship, he recounts: "He has groomed many outstanding leaders and has inspired all those who had the opportunity to work with him."
As per the official communication, Shankar has stepped down to pursue "a high-impact entrepreneurial endeavour." Srinivas wishes the best for his new innings: "I am sure he will continue to play a huge role in transforming the industry."
Before he took over the reins of The Walt Disney Company (APAC), Shankar was the president of 21st Century Fox for Asia and the Chairman & CEO of Star India. In 2007, helmed Star India and transformed it into one of the most successful media companies in Asia. His contributions have revolutionised Indian media landscape.
Shankar will remain with Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer & International Segment through the end of 2020 and will work closely with Rebecca Campbell, Chairman of Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment, to identify his successor.
