The statement said, "After more than five years as BBC World's Resident Director in India, Vinod Bakshi decided to leave the company in April-end."
On his contribution to the development of BBC World, it said, "He has made significant contributions especially at the time of great change in the broadcasting landscape, successfully promoting the channel through his relationships within government and business. He will be greatly missed."
When contacted, officials declined to comment on the replacement. Bakshi was appointed as Resident Director in February 2000 and was responsible for representing the channel's corporate interests in India and also to look at the local responsibility for maintaining good relationships with the government. He also looked after BBC World's global policy guidelines here.
