Sanjay Gupta has contributed incredible momentum for Google's India business since 2019, wrote Philipp Schindler, SVP & Chief Business Officer at Google, in an internal memo to employees.

Schindler announced in the mail that Google India Country Head and VP Sanjay Gupta has been elevated to President of Google APAC. Elaborating on Gupta's laundry list of achievements as the Country Head, Schindler wrote how he helped deliver business transformations and boosted momentum for Google's India businesses.

"Since 2019, our x-channel Ads business has more than doubled. His understanding of users and excellent network of customers and industry leaders has helped us deliver business transformation for top clients like Flipkart and form meaningful partnerships with players like Reliance to deliver new experiences for consumers," he wrote.

"Sanjay has been passionate and successful advocate for company’s investment in APAC—including scaling Google’s footprint in India across sites and teams and kickstarting Pixel manufacturing in India. His strong cross-functional leadership amid tough regulatory headwinds helped defend and strengthen Google’s position as a constructive partner in India’s digitial transformation journey.

"That’s a powerful track record for this important role – Sanjay is a leader who will drive transformational growth for our customers and our business in a fast-growing region where our success today is crucial for Google’s success tomorrow. We’ll share the news with the rest of GBO and APAC Googlers shortly. Sanjay will relocate to Singapore in the coming months. We’ll kick off the process to hire our new India leader shortly.

"In the interim, Roma will step up to lead the India LCS team. As Scott mentioned previously, he will remain at Google until the end of the year – working closely with Sanjay during this transition. We’ll make sure to celebrate them both at GBO Live in the coming months," wrote Schinder.

Gupta joined Google in 2020 from Star India where he was the Managing Director. He has also held various leadership positions at organisations such as Bharti Airtel and HUL.
