“We tried to ignore social media for a while,” this was the statement of Salman Khurshid (Former Law and Justice Minster) in September last year. But the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is waking up to social media now.

With the Lok Sabha elections slated for 2014, and the Central Government feeling the heat, AICC is gearing up with its communication strategy, starting with the call for a pitch from various digital agencies to look after its social and digital media offerings.

While Deepender Singh Hooda, Member of Parliament, Haryana, and Vikramjeet Singh, President, Punjab Youth Congress will monitor the entire process, Digvijay Singh, Congress General Secretary will take the final call for assigning the duties.

The Government has been quite proactive on digital and social media in the few months. The Congress party has taken the initiative to interact with Google Hangout; it started with Finance Minister P Chidambaram, followed by Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia discussing 12th Five Year Plan and recently, Dr CP Joshi, Minster for Road Transport and Highways, highlighting on safety via Hangout.
