BBC’s Asian entertainment channel to début in December
BBC Worldwide has announced at CASBAA that it would be launching an Entertainment channel specially developed for Asia called BBC Prime. It will carry the best of BBC's entertainment programming. The channel will go live on December 1, 2004.

BBC Prime has been developed by the team that established BBC Worldwide's successful entertainment channel with the same name in Europe, Middle East and Africa and will be headed by Wayne Dunsford.
BBC Prime's schedule will bring viewers in Asia a varied mix of comedy like The Blackadder with Rowan Atkinson to recent Golden Globe winner The office, high budget costume drama Pride and Prejudice and movies like The lost Prince. It would also have detective series Miss Marple and other hits like The Weakest Link and Top of the Pops.
BBC Prime was launched in 1995 and in Europe offers subtitles in
English, Hebrew, Danish, Swedish, NorWegian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian and Italian.The channel recently reached a milestone of 20 million subscriber homes. In South Africa, where the channel carries advertising, it is now established as the most watched international channel and over the last financial year posted a 65% increase in advertising revenue.
